I started this baby sweater on Friday night and I'm zooming along. The construction of this sweater is so interesting I feel compelled to keep knitting. It is the February Baby Sweater from Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitter's Almanac. The yarn is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport in Black Purl and I'm using size 6 bamboo circulars. I wish I could properly capture the beauty of the colors, these pictures fall far short.
Back to the construction - the sweater is knit from the top down with cleverly placed increases that create the circular yoke. Genius. The body and sleeves are knit in a lace stitch. As you can see, the sleeves are knit off of the main body and then the stitches are picked up to knit the rest in one piece. The real beauty of this design (for me at least) is in the finishing... only 2 seams. Since finishing is not very high on my list of fun things to do, this is perfect. The pattern does not really state a size, and I would guess that it is in the 6-12 months range when done.
